Increased Longevity

Independent Living

Aging-in-place

Silvertech/Agetech

OK, here goes: as they say, the elephant in the room:

from one retiree to another, the inescapable fact is none of us gets out of here alive. The real question is how well do we live, how well do we avoid debilitating health issues that keep us from a happy, healthy life. In the long run, Time is not on our side.

But medical technology IS on our side, if we getthat medical treatment In a TIMELY fashion.

How do we do that? By having a way to get help when necessary, like with a fall detector or call button, or readily recognizing and acting on symptoms of a stroke or hear attack.

But suppose some event leaves you unconscious or unable to make that contact? That's where AgeTech will come in, and we see the hardware behind the video doorbell as having great potential.

Our new website,

https://Ring4Retirees.com

It's still under construction, so there's not a lot there just yet, but soon the blog will have regular updates with tips and hints for your video doorbell, useful information about neighborhood crime, updated police reports, tools for Independent Living, where you can stock up on some of that Extended Longevity, developments in AgeTech, and other "good stuff" as we come across it.

AgeTech

What's AgeTech? A new term, it's electronics that

"aims to improve the quality of life, health, and independence of older adults."

How cool is that? And it could be a good thing for all of us in that 55+ category.

In fact, it may be the affordable alternative to having to move in with the kids, or Assisted Living, or other ways we can lose our independence. Stay tuned, we're going to follow this closely, and will post to the website blog as we go.

It's so new, today it's mostly ideas and prototypes.

So here's just one example: treatment after a "wake-up stroke" is uncertain because the time of the stroke is unknown: less than 4 hours is critical for successful recovery.

If an AgeTech motion sensor could detect a stroke soon afterwards because of changes normal sleep activity, and get help right away, rather than many hours later when it's too late...well, that could change everything.

And I'll be first in line, because my own mother's stroke wasn't discovered until at least 10 hours later, and she permanently lost all ability to speak, read, and write. She was 6 years younger than I am now. Will a doorbell get me there? No of course not. But the Ring base station accessory can handle a couple hundred devices, with and you can get affordable 24/7 professional monitoring. With z-wave and zigbee wireless connectivity and 5 minute install, it has great potential as a home-based healthcare monitoring system.
